I think sometimes it is true, but not always. I think it all depends on your consciousness and your spiritual and mental evolution. Sometimes we do stuff like help others because we want to feel recognized by others because as children we weren't recognized from our parents. But sometimes when you heal yourself you want to help from your heart because you want the best for everyone and that is when you don't wait or ask for anything in return and you don't have to let everyone know what you did. But you also learn that sometimes it's not good to help someone because more then helping them you are not letting them grow and learn how to solve their problems on their own and they will become useless or dependent on someone else all the time. And when we do stuff on our own and solve our issues we gain more self confidence and we feel more helfull and feel like we can deal with anything that gets on our way.

So well said and so true. I think the only purpose of helping should be to learn more about myself. Learn More about humanity and gain perspective on world. NOT to chase the feeling of being able to help someone.

I think it is good to help others when they need your help, but not to the point that you make them dependent of you or to the point that you make them useless. When we help a person too much, they never learn to deal with or solve their problems on their own and instead of helping them we are affecting them.
